The top two ranked teams in North Carolina, No. 1 Wesleyan and No. 2 Greensboro Day, met on the basketball court on January 20 in a big rivalry match.
The home team Wesleyan, ranked 8th in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings, got off to a strong start in the first half. Harry Giles III was Wesleyan’s strongest through the half, scoring the bulk of his game-high 21 points in the first two quarters.
In the second half, Greensboro, ranked 16th in the nation, work its way back in the game. Particularly in the final four minutes of the last quarter, the Bengals dominated. At 4:17, Giles scored to Greensboro’s lead to 47-46. The rest of the story is all Greensboro’s. The Bengals dropped another nine points before the end of the game, while Wesleyan only managed a basket, giving Greensboro the 56-48 victory.
Bengal Peter Agba led Greensboro with 18 points coming from excellent post moves and his high jump shot. Darius Moore added 10 points for the Bengals.
Now 25-0, Greensboro will surely receive quite a boost both on the national scale and within North Carolina.
Greensboro gets back on the court on January 23 to face Forsyth Country Day.
